newspaper staff, read like a maniac and involved myself in anything related to
journalism.
Q: What’s the most important lesson you’ve learned so far in your writing career?
A: You MUST write something everyday. Also, reading and writing go hand in
hand like twins.
Q: What are you working on right now?
A: I am trying to work on poetry and editorial type commentary stuff, that is
when me 19-month old "boss" will let me!
Q: Name some authors or books that have influenced your writing life in a positive
way.
A: Alice Walker is the ultimate for me! Also Toni Morrison and Edwidge Danticat
are great too.
Q: What have you recently read or what are you reading right now that you
would consider an outstanding work?
A: The last great book I read was The Dew Breaker by Edwidge Danticat. Now I
am reading a book called Sweetness in the Belly by Camilla Gibb. It pretty good!
Q: What excites or ignites your soul?
A: Aside from Allah and Islam which go without saying. Great literature and the
creative process. It amazes me how people come up with their stories and poems.
They are infinite like numbers!
Q: What have you enjoyed the most about being an MWA member?
A: The sisterhood and all of the very useful information. Lot's of love among the
sisters, no one is "catty" or mean.
